Raglan

Today was Raglan. This was a very chilled-out surfing village with a variety of huts layered on top of each other in hilled woodland. We all shared a few rooms in one of these huts while sharing kitchen facilities with the rest of this mini village.

In the afternoon I had my first ever surfing lesson. The water was absolutely freezing, but after managing to stand up on the board after just half an hour, I understood instantly how people became surfers for life.

After four months in South America eating out for almost every meal, finally getting the opportunity to cook our own food was very exciting. Every evening a group of between 3 and 6 of us would get together and cook a delicious feast. This evening we made burritos. I was so happy.

Noddy’s “fact” of the day:

The government are trying to kill off the possums. They are small quite cute animals that were imported to provide for the fur industry. However, when the market drastically declined due to animal rights campaigns, their numbers spread like wildfire. Apparently if you see one on the road… do not swerve.
